Rickie Fowler thinks 2014 Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson believes that the captain has been unfairly treated after the team's loss in the Ryder Cup.
He said "I thought Tom did a great job of talking to the guys. He has been there plenty of times, and I enjoyed the time I got to spend with him. I respect him; he is a legend within the game. Some things may have gotten blown a little bit out of proportion. But obviously we didn't play as well as we needed to in order to win."
And Phil Mickelson does not agree with that thought. Michelson has already voiced out his thoughts on Watson. According to Mickelson, Watson should have engaged himself more towards his team and should also have stuck to the system that had worked previously like it 2008.
During the 2008 Ryder Cup, the victoy was led by Paul Azinger and was one of the two wins of the US team in the last 10 editions and those involved were particularly happy with his "pod" system.
According to Mickelson "Paul Azinger got everybody invested in the process. He got everybody invested in who they were going to play with, who the picks were going to be, who was going to be in their pod, who -- when they would play, and they had a great leader for each pod."
He added "The other thing that Paul did really well was he had a great game plan for us, how we were going to go about playing together; golf ball, format, what we were going to do, if so-and-so is playing well, if so-and-so is not playing well, we had a real game plan."
"We use that same process in the President's Cup and we do really well. Unfortunately, we have strayed from that for the last three Ryder Cups and we need to consider maybe getting back to that formula that helped us play our best."
But Fowler still thinks that it was uncalled for. He said "The unfortunate part, I believe, is that stuff that happens in the team room should stay there."
He continued "Clearly, we want to win the Cup, and it is not as if there has been a lack of motivation or anything like that. It sucks losing. Everyone is aware of that and everyone wants to win."
