The producers of Wonder Woman, Warner Bros. has offered the film to a female director, Lexi Alexanders, if the earlier reports are confirmed, The Punishers Director tells Forbes,
"If she says yes, everybody will be very happy, including me. Still, I don't see at this point why anyone would say yes. There is huge pressure. If [a female director] does fail, then all of a sudden it's 'all women suck at directing."
Alexander usually expresses her views against that form of thinking in Hollywood, sahes she is not interested in directing Wonder Woman, in spite being told in some write-ups that she is a possible candidate. She further explains to Fast Company, "Imagine the weight on my shoulders. How many male superhero movies fail? So now, we finally get Wonder Woman with a female director, imagine if it fails. And you have no control over marketing, over budget. So without any control, you carry the fucking weight of gender equality for both characters and women directors. No way."
Alexander is the only female director to helm a superhero movie from a giant studio, explains to Forbes that once the director is disclosed by Warner Bros, she is thinking to ask for clearness during the production development, as she truly believes that transparency would make it difficult to blame any possible failures on the skill and talent of a female director, by disclosing further issues female directors may face. She explains,
"People need to understand the system. We have to demand transparency so we as a public can judge whether she fucked up or not."
She further explains her sentiments, "One of the things that wasn't clear to me when I read the pieces was when you talked about another female director saying, "I'm one of the boys, and I am not trying to distinguish myself. How important is that distinction to you? I mean, is it a matter of going. I am just like everybody else? Or is it that you feel that specifically women's voices are not being either supported or heard or encouraged?"
he film is indefinitely schedules for releases on June 23, 2017.
