Benedict Cumberbatch's engagement to theatre actress and director Sophie Hunter wasn't announced through Twitter or Facebook like normal people nowadays. Instead, the 'Sherlock' star shared the news in the way he would have done if he "wasn't sort of famous."
The 38-year-old British heartthrob broke millions of fans' hearts when he announced his impending marriage to Hunter through a tiny advert deep inside The Times.
"I wanted to have some control over the message. I don't Tweet or do social media. It's too impersonal," 'The Imitation Game' star reportedly told People Magazine.
Ever the classy actor, he added, "I would rather do what we did, and have people find it, and not see us from some s-ty, grainy footage staring lovingly into each [other's] eyes with a ring on someone's finger. I wanted it to be ours."
He added that he and 36-year-old Sophie are "so happy." They have been rumored to be dating for some months now but were only spotted together in June. Cumberbatch also visited the Oxford graduate's mother in Scotland last month presumably to ask for his girlfriend's hand in marriage.
A week later, Benedict Cumberbatch's engagement announcement has already been met with mixed emotions, but mostly wishes of congratulations.
"One of the most incredible things about getting engaged, which we had no idea would be coming back our way, is the amount of love that just comes flooding back," he shared.
According to the '12 Years A Slave' actor, seeing "family, friends, the world" being happy for him and his betrothed is "amazing."
What else do his fans wish for him? Why, "cumberbabies," of course.
Cumberbatch fans are not alone in this wish either. The actor shared, "Well, my mother is also waiting for Cumberbabies."
No word yet on the couple's exact wedding date.
Congratulations to Benedict Cumberbatch's engagement to Sophie Hunter!
