Details of the shooting that occurred two weeks ago at a Washington State high school continue to emerge.
Although the 911 call that teacher Megan Silberberger made on the day of the shooting was released as well as the progress of one of the victims who survived, the reason as to what led 15-year-old Jaylen Fryberg to open fire at the cafeteria of the Washington State high school is still unknown.
"The question everybody wants is, 'Why?,'" stated Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary, according to ABC News.
He added, "I don't know that the 'why' is something we can provide."
The sheriff reportedly stated that detectives were digging through reams of text messages, phone and social media records as part of an investigation that could take months. There has reportedly been speculation that the teenager was upset about a girl, evident from the posts that he made on his Twitter account shortly before the shooting.
15-year-old Andrew Fryberg, who was Jaylen's cousin, was the latest victim to die because of his wounds. 14-year-old Zoe Galasso was killed during the shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School while Gia Soriana died two days after the shooting at Providence Regional Medical Center. Shaylee Chuckulnaskit died on October 31 while Jaylen Fryberg died of a self-inflicted wound.
Jaylen's other cousin, Nate Hatch, was reportedly released from the hospital and returned home after being treated for being shot in the jaw.
In the midst of the shooting, the teacher who tried to stop Jaylen has become known as a hero. In one of tapes released on Wednesday by the police, Megan Silberberger is heard telling the operator about the details of the shooting.
"911, we have a shooting. Marysville-Pilchuck High School Cafeteria. The shooter...we have many injured. Marysville-Pilchuck High School. We need emergency right away. Cafeteria, large cafeteria. My name is Megan Silberberger, I'm a teacher. Megan Silberberger, can you still hear me?," the teacher is heard saying, according to USA Today.
After the shooting, the president of the local teachers' union released a statement from Silberberger reportedly stating that she had asked for time to heal during this difficult time, according to the NY Times.
