It has just been reported that the world very nearly lost one of its most famous and beloved rock stars. Bono of the band U2 was flying in his private jet from his hometown of Dublin, Ireland, to Berlin, Germany, when the rear door of the said jet fell off.

The aircraft was able to land without any other incident at the Berlin Schonefeld Airport. This was then that the ground crew found out that the rear hatch was nowhere to be found. According to Time magazine, Bono's jet landed at 12:26 at the Berlin airport on Wednesday. The singer was reportedly traveling with two pilots and four other companions on the Dublin-Berlin flight. "The ground crew realized the door was gone and two suitcases had fallen out," said Germout Freitag of the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation."Officials have not yet located the two suitcases or the hatch door, but they have been able to pinpoint the area where they are likely to have landed by the radar."

Bono had flown to Berlin to take part in the Bambi Awards, which is said to be the German equivalent of the US' Emmy Awards. Bono and U2 were set to perform in the show. Bono's other U2 bandmate, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton were traveling to Berlin on separate flights.

Furthermore according to the news, though U2's Bono and his traveling companions were not hurt because of the missing door incident, two pieces of luggage were gone and are presumed to have fallen off.

As to why the plane's door fell off, there will be a series of investigations to determine the causes of the incident, which could have very well been disastrious. "The investigation will take at least six to eight weeks and will be greatly hampered if the door is not located," Freitag said. "[We] have no idea at the moment what caused this and need to examine both the door and the area of the plane," Freitag said. "This sort of thing is not common."
