The "Hateful Eight" trailer teases director Quentin Tarantino's latest project, with only a handful of films left before he retires.
A recent leak for the "Hateful Eight" script gave away part of the plot for Quentin Tarantino's latest project, this time a Western shot in old-school, 70mm film. Tarantino keeps the details of the new movie to a minimum, though the cast and release date is already confirmed.
Tarantino departs (yet again) from the trend of digital film by choosing to shoot the movie on 70mm stock, at 24 frames per second. In an interview with Deadline:
"If we do our jobs right by making this film a 70 mm event, we will remind people why this is something you can't see on television and how this is an experience you can't have when you watch movies in your apartment, your man cave or your iPhone or iPad. You'll see 24 frames per second play out, all these wonderfully painted pictures create the illusion of movement."
"The Hateful Eight" cast includes new and familiar actors in Tarantino's lineup; Samuel Jackson, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, also Jennifer Jason Leigh (screenrant.com).
Tarantino's run in off-the-beaten-path projects also wraps up in the next two films, according to the director.
"I've got two more to go after this. It's not etched in stone, but that is the plan. If I get to the 10th, do a good job and don't screw it up, well that sounds like a good way to end the old career."
The leaked script reports the film's setting is confined in a stagecoach and a haberdashery, broken down into five chapters.
"The script is an ensemble Western with obvious parts for Madsen and Dern, as well as Tarantino stalwarts like Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz. Jackson and Madsen would likely both play bounty hunters returning human plunder to a town called Red Rock in exchange for hefty rewards. Their characters, a former major in the Union army and a man named John Ruth, dominate the first two of the script's five chapters." (gawker.com)
The Hateful Eight" release date is slated for late 2015.
