Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Garnett has a great plan after his playing career is over. Nope, he does not plan to be a team's general manager or neither a coach. He has bigger plans and being the Minnesota Timberwolves' all-time leading scorer; he has plans on buying the team someday soon.
Garnett said "I want to buy the Timberwolves. Put a group together and perhaps someday try to buy the team. That's what I want."
Garnett entered the 1995 NBA Draft, where he was selected with the 5th overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves and became the first NBA player drafted directly out of high school in 20 years.
When Nets general manager Billy King was asked on his opinion about this thought said he wouldn't be surprised if Garnett were to buy the Timberwolves.
King said "He would be one of the best owners in the NBA because he understands what the players need and he understands what it takes to be successful in the NBA."
Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor as well as coach Flip Saunders was Garnet's former coach. That is why his legacy and his history to the franchise is very important to him.
He said "That is the one that has my interest. I have ties there. Flip's there. There are so many things that I see that I can provide to younger players. I gravitate to the guys that really, really work hard. I'm able to show them things. Help their games. To see the progress is huge."
Garnet came off a career-worst season in which he averaged 6.5 points and 6.6 rebounds, he had a lot of things to think about and didn't give King his official statement that he was coming back until mid-September.
He adds "I really didn't like last year and the way I played, so I put myself in a position to be successful, to be better. I did that by starting things early [in the offseason]."
While Nets center Brook Lopez has this to say "He came back on a bit of a mission. He put in a lot of work this summer. He wanted to come back in ready to help us any way he could."
