Manny Pacquiao news reveals "Pacman's" intent to fight back down at lower weight classes after his upcoming bout against Chris Algieri. The eight-division world champion is even reported to be contemplating to go as far down as 135-pounds at lightweight.
In September, "Pacman's" head trainer, Hall-of-Famer Freddie Roach, stated that his fighter may be able to score knockouts again once he goes back down from 147 at welterweight where he is currently fighting at, to 140 at light welterweight. The famed trainer believes that Pacquiao was facing much larger opponents, hence his inability to dominate them as much as he did in the earlier years of his career.
Manny Pacquiao news reveals that the fighter himself has laid out his plans to go back down in weight after his upcoming bout against undefeated Chris Algieri, wherein he will be defending his WBO welterweight title.
"The reason we are fighting this fight at 144 pounds is because I wanted to see how I performed at a lower weight," the 35-year old Pacquiao said in a report by Bad Left Hook. "If I do well, I could easily fight at 140 for my next fight."
Pacquiao's last stoppage victory was against Miguel Cotto in 2009, wherein he is once again competed at a lighter weight than the maximum. For obvious reasons, he believes that competing at the lower weight classes may bring back the "old Manny" that was dominating every opposition put in front of him.
"I could be faster than when I fought at welterweight and super welterweight and if my power remains the same, I may be able to score more knockouts at lower weights," Pacquiao said.
Manny Pacquiao news also reveals that the eight-division world champion may go as far back down as 135-pounds, if fate permits it.
"140 is the weight I walk around at when I'm not training for a fight," he added. "So that is no issue and even 135 would be easy for me to make."
