Holly Holm's UFC debut has been put on hold after "The Preacher's Daughter" suffered an injury during training. But as early as now, the former women's boxing champion is already eager to get back into action.
Holly Holm's UFC debut was originally slated against Raquel Pennington for the UFC 181 event next month. However, an injury during training forced her out of action, indefinitely.
In an interview with Inside MMA, "The Preacher's Daughter" detailed her injury, which happened a few weeks ago.
"My neck was kind of hurting and I kind of started taking it easy thinking it just needed a little bit of massage... and finally I had no activity in my triceps, so we figured we probably should get an MRI and I had a herniated disc that was putting pressure on my nerves going down to the arm. It is a pretty big injury," Holm explained.
As of this posting, no new announcement about when the rescheduling of Holly Holm's UFC debut will be. But according to Holm, cancelling the fight was not an easy option to make.
"I really didn't want to cancel the fight," she said. "I got a steroid epidural injection and it's taken a lot of the swelling down already."
According to Holm, she was given ten days to see how the injection would work on her, and if it were to bring the strength back to her arm. But as early as now, she claims the medication has been treating her well.
"I actually feel 100% better already, which I can't go out and train right now. It's only been since Tuesday. It's only been three days, so if it's already actively working now I feel like it's going to be not too long before I can get back in the gym."
Asked what her future plans are, Holm says everything remains on target, even her opponent of choice.
"I would love to still fight Raquel [Pennington] and have it on another card, but that's not really fair to her either.... That would be great if we could just postpone a little bit and if they find somebody for her and they want me to fight the winner, that sounds good to me too."
