Uber Drivers Slam Spotify Partnership: Company Accused Of Ignoring Needs Of Employees

Uber has announced a new partnership with Spotify, which will reportedly allow passengers to remotely control their music through the car's speakers, according to the NY Daily News.

However, although the new Uber and Spotify partnership will allow passengers to "choose the music you want to hear on the journey," drivers of the ride-hailing service have reportedly begun to express their concern regarding the new opportunity.

"This particular issue is the makings of a LOT of potential law suits. Bad move on Uber's part. It's hard enough to get the drunks home without being distracted by their perpetual disturbances and the time when one tolerates the music because of SURGE. But it is both highly distracting and annoying as all hell. Just a vehicle full of loud obnoxious drunks is punishment enough. Adding LOUD music (what's next? Video games played at ear bursting sounds?) only adds another UNSAFE condition for drivers," wrote an Uber driver on the forum UberPeople.net, according to the Business Insider.

Another Uber driver in Atlanta, who reportedly accused the company of ignoring pressing issues like wear and tear on their cars and low pay, said of the Spotify partnership, "I feel this, and many actions prior to this, conveys what Uber's priorities are."

How the unique service will work is reportedly still unclear. However, it is reportedly an opportunity for Uber to get customers to use their service instead of that of their competitors.

The service is reportedly available to Spotify Premium users who pay $10 a month and will be available in 10 select cities this Friday. The cities on the list include New York City, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Nashville, San Francisco, Singapore, Stockholm, Sydney and Toronto.

Despite the fact that Uber drivers may be negatively affected by this new service, users of the application are already tweeting about looking forward to the experience.

"I am going to order an Uber cab tonight and use Spotify to make the driver play some crazy Marilyn Manson tune. Fun cab journey ahead," wrote Twitter user Tom Warren.
