Death Of Blackberry Unlikely: (Nasdaq:BBRY), Samsung Expands Mobile Security Software Upgrades For iOS, Android (SAN FRANCISCO) -- BlackBerry is showing signs of a comeback from a loss in profits and it is broadening its strategy to sell software in mobile-security to rival tabs and smartphones to increase the popularity of Blackberry devices. The Canada-based firm known for its popular 'QWERTY' keypad, met with mobile market leader Samsung Electronics in San Francisco to release a number of BlackBerry ugrades to its stockpile of mobile security weapons while sealing a partnership with Samsung Electronics, a market leader using Android OS. Reports say these security features will undoubtedly bring back an interest in Blackberry devices. "BlackBerry CEO John Chen is counting on the increased emphasis on mobile security to help the Canadian company to double its annual software revenue to about $500 million. The security arsenal is designed to help businesses and government agencies protect their employees' smartphones from malicious software and other hacking attacks that can steal confidential information," The Associate Press reported. BlackBerry which failed to match the iPhone's touch screen and the rapid growth of the Android now has just a small percent of loyal followers in North America. In 2009, the Blackberry commanded a market share of 50%. "Chen, who took over as CEO a year ago, has been sharpening BlackBerry's focus on the business and government market in a tacit admission that the company's devices are unlikely to win over most consumers who have become enamored with Apple and Android products,'" shares MercuryNews. "BlackBerry's most recent phone, a square-shaped device called the Passport, quickly sold out of its limited supply after its September release. During (a presentation), Chen provided a glimpse of a red Passport model that will be available Nov. 28. He also said BlackBerry will release another phone, called the Classic, on Dec. 17," reports The Associated Press. |
