The competition is tough but "The King's Face" started strong, winning decent ratings and earning praise for its lead actor Seo In Guk.

"The King's Face" earned 7.1 percent in the national viewer ratings with its opening episode and began in third place. The historical drama, based on the story of a real-life prince, stars Seo, Jo Yoon Hee, and Lee Sung Jae. It also stars Shin Sung Rok, who is doing double drama duty by also appearing in "The Liar Game."

"The King's Face" tells the story of Prince Gwanghae, who was born to a concubine, but becomes crown prince. Because of his father's paranoia he has to deal with death threats and dethronement. He enlists a face reader to help him ascend to the throne.

The Chosun Ilbo praised Seo In Guk's acting in the drama, saying that he successfully showed a wide range of emotions. The review said he "wonderfully portrayed the sadness of a prince with a sad destiny."

It is not Seo In Guk's first leading role as he recently appeared in the comedy "High School King of Manners," but it is his first role in a historical drama.

"Mr. Baek" started strong and remained in first place. "Mr. Baek" is a drama about a 70-year-old man who suddenly finds himself in his 30-year-old body and falls in love for the first time. To explain his sudden appearance, he has to pretend to be his own previously unacknowledged son. The drama, starring Shin Ha Kyun, Jang Nara and Lee Joon, rated 11.2 percent of the viewers.

"Pinocchio," the story of a reporter who cannot tell a lie, stayed in second place with a slight increase in the ratings. The drama rose to 9.4 percent. By the drama's third episode, Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk were well on their way to becoming journalists although for very different reasons. She found it thrilling to unearth facts that supported the truth. He has a grudge with the television station because one reporter's unethical coverage of the news resulted in the defamation of his father and the tragic end of his family. Complicating their career paths is the fact that Park Shin Hye's character's coldhearted mother is the well-respected news broadcaster responsible for that unethical coverage.

Will "The King's Face" rise in the ratings to compete with "Pinocchio" or even go for first place?
