A "Normal Barbie" doll has hit the market and it just might be the best holiday gift this year.
The "Normal Barbie" doll, which features stretch marks, scars and cellulite, has finally given gift givers the opportunity to purchase a more realistic present for the holidays.
"A lot of kids have acne or grass stains on their clothes or cellulite," stated artist and researcher Nickolay Lamm, who designed the "Normal Barbie" doll, which has been given the name Lammily, according to the NY Daily News.
He added, "It's nothing to be ashamed of, and my hope is to normalize it,"
Lammily's debut in the market may be perfect timing as sales of the Barbie doll, which has an elongated neck and stick-thin thighs, has reportedly dropped 21% from 2013, the company Mattel reported last month. However, Lamm's launch of his doll doesn't have anything to do with Mattel at all.
"I don't really have an issue with them, but their brand is about having a very extravagant lifestyle. It's kind of like the American Dream is in terms of their focus," stated Lamm.
Lammily has measurements of a typical 19-year-old woman's body and instead of stilettos, she has flats, according to the Chicago Tribune. The doll reportedly became available Wednesday for $25 at lammily.com, with the sticker pack an additional $6.
The new doll is apparently very popular, as traffic reportedly crashed the website for seven hours that day, according to Lamm.
"A lot of people think I'm against Barbie, but I'm not. I'm trying to make 'real' cool. I think we kind of shun real, but real is all we have," stated Lamm.
He added, "Real is beautiful."
