"The Planet of the Apes 3" plot may not be a conclusion, according to lead star Andy Serkis.
Serkis is sure to confirm his role as the evolved ape in "The Planet of the Apes 3" plot, which is expected to follow through on the premise of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."
The sequel to the series is set in the aftermath of the catastrophe which practically wipes out the human race, leaving but a remnant of survivors. A small community has settled on the outskirts of San Francisco and is in need of resource, which happens to be located within Caesar's territory.
"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" was a surprise hit in theaters, with a story that's a departure from the original series. Matt Reeves has been confirmed to direct Part 3 even before "Dawn" released in theaters, and Andy Serkis has become the poster boy for the franchise.
"The Planet of the Apes 3" plot is still up in the air, though, and Andy Serkis still can't confirm if part 3 will be the conclusion installment. The original series of films ended with the apes ruling the earth, and it's expected the reboot will also end likewise.
Serkis was quoted in an MTV UK interview: "To be honest, it's very, very early in where we choose to drop anchor in the next film. So, it could be five years after the event, it could be the night after the event of where we left 'Dawn'. It's very difficult to know where the story's going right at the moment because it's being written as we speak.
The journey will continue and it might not necessarily be summarized and completely fulfilled in this next one. Eventually we know we're going to end up at 'Planet of the Apes,' but whether it's this film or not, I don't know."
"The Planet of the Apes 3" release date is slated for July 29, 2016.
