Miguel Cotto's next fight, which may also likely be against knock artist Gennady Golovkin, will not go for five rounds according to "GGG's" trainer Abel Sanchez. However, the Golokvin camp still maintains the high level of respect they for Cotto.
While Miguel Cotto's next fight has yet to be scheduled, his camp is looking at the first quarter of 2015 for his ring return. His last bout was against Argentine sensation Sergio Martinez, whom he finished in seven rounds en route to the WBC and Ring Magazine middleweight titles.
Gennady Golovkin has been one of the names considered as the opponent for Miguel Cotto's next fight, but his trainer Abel Sanchez already deemed it a huge mismatch.
"Miguel Cotto couldn't go five rounds, and Freddie Roach knows that and Miguel Cotto knows that," Sanchez said in a report by Ring TV Online. "Freddie gets on a rant like that and goes over the top to deflect the real questions so that he doesn't have to give true answers. But Freddie knows the truth."
Sanchez's statements were reported to be in response to Cotto's trainer Freddie Roach, who had previously declared that his fighter would lay a beating on Golovkin.
"I think Miguel Cotto will kick his ass," Roach said in a separate report. "I just think that he can outbox that guy. Everyone is talking about Golovkin, saying that he's got nobody to fight...I don't think that he's unbeatable."
But despite the trade of verbal jabs, the Golovkin camp still holds their would-be opponent in high regard.
"As we have always said, we will continue to get the best available opponents that are willing to get in the ring with GGG," said promoter Tom Loeffler, who handles all of Golovkin's fights. "Cotto has proven to be a great warrior and we all have respect for him."
