There no longer seems to be any competition for the Monday-Tuesday night dramas. "Pride and Prejudice" has held the lead for a few weeks and continues to hold on to first place with the other dramas far behind.
This week the drama increased its ratings, while the other dramas, "Secret Door" and "Tomorrow's Cantabile" lowered theirs.
"Pride and Prejudice" increased by 0.6 percent to reach 11.3 percent in the viewer ratings as the drama's mysteries became entangled. In the latest episode, the previous cases investigated by the team began to seem related to what at first seemed like a ridiculous claim by a spurned job seeker. Not only do these mysteries seem connected but they may also have something to do with the mystery that first helped Dong Chi, played by Choi Jin Hyuk, and Yeol Moo, played by Baek Jin Hee, consider becoming prosecutors. That mystery is the tragic disappearance of Yeol Moo's younger brother, which was witnessed by Dong Chi. It also begins to seem that there was a cover-up and some evidence points to the fact that he might after all be alive.
The drama's mysteries are building to an interesting conclusion and the appeal of the lead stars, Choi Jin Hyuk and Baek Jin Hee continue to attract viewers. Add the performance of newcomer Lee Tae Hwan and you may have the secret for the show's continued success.
It's surprising that "Tomorrow Cantabile" did not do better. The drama also has a stellar cast, featuring Joo Won, who had a hit with his last drama, "Good Doctor," and Shim Eun Kyung, who won praise for her role in the film "Miss Granny." And the Japanese version of the story did very well earning high ratings. But "Tomorrow Cantabile" has not interested audiences. This week the drama only rated 4.9 percent, which is 1.1 percent lower than last week. Is it the subject of classical music, the complicated storyline or the characters? It's hard to say.
"Secret Door" did slightly better but also posed no competition for "Pride and Prejudice." This week the sad story of the doomed Crown Prince Sado rated only 5.5 percent, which is 0.1 percent lower than the previous week. The drama stars Han Suk Kyu, Lee Je Hoon, Park Eun Bin and Kim Min Jong. Knowing that it will not end well for the real-life prince may be one reason that the drama has less viewer appeal.
