What’s being seen as another police brutality case in which a Cleveland police officer reportedly shot and killed a 12-year-old boy has shocked the family of the victim, Tamir Rice.
Now, the parents of Rice, who was shot twice after he reportedly pulled a replica gun from his waistband, has asked city officials to release the surveillance video that shows what happened at the Cudell Recreation Center where the young boy was shot, according to the website Cleveland.com.
The death of Tamir Rice is being viewed as a police brutality case after details emerged that he was holding a toy gun.
The city reportedly allowed the family’s attorneys to watch the surveillance video on Monday, according to the SF Chronicle, but police stated that the video is considered evidence and that the department would not make it public out of sensitivity to the family of Tamir Rice.
Rice was reportedly killed after police responded to a 911 call on Saturday about a gun at a playground. City officials are reportedly holding a public forum on Tuesday night at a recreation center close to where Tamir Rice was shot.
“The news of Tamir's death has devastated our family. Tamir was a bright young man who had his whole life ahead of him. This is a tragedy in our eyes,” read the letter the family sent through attorneys Tim Kucharski and David Malik To Mayor Frank Jackson and the Cleveland Division of Police.
