Oscar Isaac is X-men's Apocalypse! "A Most Violent Year" lead in closing talks to play the villain, according to a report.
Variety tags Oscar Isaac in "X-men: Apocalypse." The deal is reportedly sealed and Isaac confirmed as the ancient mutant Villain.
The search for an actor to play the role has been peppered with rumors, and recently Idris Elba was tagged for mentioning the word "apocalypse" in his lines and on-screen roles.
A source from Variety says Singer was busy over the past few weeks meeting actors for the part, but Isaac was a favorite ever since, the type of actor Singer had in mind for the role. Apocalypse in the next X-men movie is described as a cunning, yet charismatic leader.
Isaac has roles on at least two upcoming films, "A Most Violent Year" reportedly has early bids for Oscar Awards, and the next Star Wars film, currently in production.
Singer said "X-men: Apocalypse" takes on a new level of destruction, with a villain and a story just right for such a scale.
"'Apocalypse' will have more of the mass destruction that 'X-Men' films, to date, have not relied upon. There's definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle."
Singer says he'd like to work on projects beyond the "X-men: Apocalypse" release date, May 26, 2016. The story is set in the 1980's, in between the events of the first three movies in the series and "X-men: Days of Future Past."
"It all stems back to when I did [the first] X-Men. You always want to know where a character's going to go, what their future's going be like. You can always sequelise. ... As a director, you always need a backstory to give your actors. It may not be the right backstory, but it's one you can give the actor to help them understand their character. These prequels are really exciting for me because they give me a chance to explore ideas I came up with more than a decade ago." (variety.com)
