The roster of "Captain America: Civil War" has been bit by bit revealed by Marvel. After Daniel Bruhl was confirmed to join the cast, the buzz that Hugo Weaving might return as Red Skull in the third installment has started to roll out.

Hugo Weaving, who played Agent Smith in the box-office movie "The Matrix" starting Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne, had previously hinted not coming back in "Captain America" sequels after appearing in "Captain America: The First Avenger".

He said in 2012 during his interview with Collider when asked if he would be back in "Captain America" sequels, "I did that for 'Captain America'. I think the tendency, with those films, would be to probably not bring a villain back. They might for 'The Avengers', but I didn't think I'd be in 'Captain America' 2 or 3. I don't think Red Skull will be there."

"And it's not something I would want to do again. I'm glad I did it," he added. The 54-year-old also said he would be obliged to be back since he signed up for a multi-picture deal with Marvel if the studio would ask him to return, but "they wouldn't want to force someone to do it, if they didn't want to."

Indeed, we didn't see Weaving in his Red Skull suit in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier".

If Marvel' Kevin Feige or directors Anthony and Joe Russo would want Red Skull to return in the movie, they might ask Weaving to play the role again or replace him with Daniel Bruhl. In the recent report, Bruhl has been finally confirmed on board to the third sequel but his role hasn't yet disclosed by Marvel. However, the "Rush" actor is rumored to play another villain character and not Red Skull.

As of now, no talks yet between Weaving and Marvel have been done to confirm either the return of Red Skull or Weaving. "I have absolutely no idea. I haven't talked to anyone about it, so yeah, we'll just have to wait and see. No idea at all," Weaving said when The Hollywood Reporter asked if he would be back for "Captain America: Civil War".
