Star Of 'The Bill Cosby Show' Cliff Huxtable Facing Sexual Assault Charges? Why Are Women Speaking Up Now?

'The Bill Cosby Show' was one of the favorite sitcoms for kids and adults alike while it aired on television. At the time, no one would have guessed that entertainer had a history of sexually assaulting women. Some reports say that he drug women before he raped them.

Fast forwarding Bill Cosby's life to the year 2014, seven women have come forward accusing him of sexually assault. Experts say that victims find it easier for victims to come forward since there is less stigma associated with social stigma.

"I think our society really has changed," says Tamra Wade, a data analyst who now mentors young assault victims. "Ten years ago, it was much harder for a victim to get an audience listening to her. Now there's less of a stigma, and that gives people more confidence to come forward," The Associated Press reports.

Epoch Times reported, "A key element in the cultural shift, say some advocates, have been a series of high-profile cases like the Penn State molestation scandal, stories of abuse in the military or the Catholic Church, and cases of date rape at university campuses. Particularly when a number of people come forward, it's harder for the public to ignore, they say."

President of Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network in Washington, D.C., Scott Berkowitz, says, "People may have an easy time rationalizing away only one victim, but not when there are a number of them."

Allegations against Cosby include exchanging an interview for a victim's story in the National Enquirer. The latest count of women charging Cosby with assault equal 20.
