Lady Gaga shocked the world with the performance of her song "Swine" at SXSW earlier this year, in which "vomit artist" Mille Brown threw up green liquid on the "Artpop" hitmaker.
The 28-year-old singer recently explained her intentions for the vomit performance of "Swine" during an interview with Howard Stern on Tuesday, stating that the song was about her experience being assaulted when she was around 19 years old, according to the NY Daily News.
Lady Gaga reportedly explained that the vomit performance was tied to the song's theme, which is about "rape" and "demoralization."
"The song is about rage and fury and passion, and I had a lot of pain that I wanted to release," stated the pop star.
Lady Gaga continued, "And I said to myself, 'I want to sing this song while I'm ripping hard on a drum kit, and then I want to get on a mechanical bull and I want this chick to throw up on me in front of the world so that I can tell them, you know what? You can never, ever degrade as much as I could degrade myself, and look how beautiful it is when I do."
Howard Stern questioned Lady Gaga about the assault, asking if she was raped by a record producer.
The "Born This Way" singer hesitated to answer the question, stating, "I don't want to.. . . Happy times! Let's talk about happy things!"
Since news broke that Lady Gaga had been assaulted, Kesha's lawyer reportedly claimed that the singer accused Dr. Luke of raping her, according to TMZ. However, Lady Gaga's rep told the entertainment website that the claims are "absolutely not true."
"I went through some horrific things that I'm able to laugh at now because I've gone through a lot of mental and physical therapy and emotional therapy to heal over the years," Lady Gaga revealed.
