Hwang Jung Eum and Ji Sung appeared together last year in the surprise-hit melodrama "Secret," also known as "Secret Love." In that drama Hwang Jung Eum played a woman who is wrongly convicted of a hit and run accident. Ji Sung played the man whose girlfriend was killed. He could not forgive her but then he fell in love with her.
The winning couple will reunite to star in the upcoming drama "Kill Me, Heal Me." This time Ji Sung will play an heir with multiple personality disorder and Hwang Jung Eum is cast as the psychiatry resident that secretly treats and comes to love him. His problems are the result of traumatic events that happened to him in his childhood, so there's hope that he might kill off at least six of his seven conflicting and troublesome personalities.
And these stars may be just the prescription this medical romance drama needs. Until a few days ago, Lee Seung Gi and Lim Ji Yeon were signed on for the role. But both declined, citing busy film schedules. He is promoting his first film "Today's Love." Lim Ji Yeon is wrapping up her second film, "Treacherous Retainer."
When the stars decided to opt out, it looked like the drama might be in trouble, as it is only a month until the drama's scheduled airing. The drama is set to replace "Mr. Baek" in January.
The supporting cast remains in place with Seo Kang Joon playing Ji Sung's novelist brother. Kim Yuri playing Ji Sung's first love, a woman who may or may not have something to do with his disorder-inducing trauma. Seo Kang Joon last appeared in "Witch's Romance," where his character romanced Uhm Jung Hwa. Kim Yuri was last seen in "The Master's Sun" and "Full Sun.
Also in the cast is Oh Min Suk, who currently plays the overworked by sympathetic boss in "Misaeng. His character in "Kill Me, Heal Me" will be less sympathetic as he wants to thwart Ji Sung's plans to assume control of the company.
Kim Jin Man, who directed the MBC drama "Scandal" is the director of "Kill Me, Heal Me." Jin Soo Won, who wrote the "The Moon Embracing The Sun" will write the screenplay.
Although the drama has been described as a romance, it does approach a serious subject. Both Hwang Jung Eum and Ji Sung have plenty of romantic comedy and melodrama experience to tackle such roles. What do you think of this casting? Let us know.
