Cameras will begin to roll for the much- awaited X-Men: Apocalypse in April 2015 and yet little details about its cast have been revealed so far: Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Channing Tatum as Gambit, but who's going to play the part of Jean Grey?
Today, photos of Filipina actress Marian Rivera geared up as Jean Grey began to surface online and some of her fans have become very ecstatic about the possibility of her getting into a Hollywood blockbuster - apparently not. As per, ABS-CBN News, the 30-year-old actress just posed as Jean for a charity cosplay print sale organized by a photographer named Jay Tablante.
On the Instagram post of Rivera she shared: "Thank you Jay for giving me a chance to help others by doing this! It's such an honor for me. And I got to portray one of my favorite comic characters!"
This wasn't the first time the celebrity wowed her fans in a superhero costume. In fact, the recent images were prompted by the initial success of their collaboration wherein Rivera pulled off a Wonder Woman costume. Both of these projects are for the benefit of Cribs Foundation, a shelter for abused girls based in the Philippines.
Going back to the reality, X:Men Apocalypse's director Bryan Singer is reportedly pursuing higher profile young actresses for the role of Jean Grey including Hailee Steinfeld, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Elle Fanning. The option to go for the younger generation is in line with Singer's confirmation that Apocalypse will be set in the '80s.
"If we included some of the original X-Men like Storm and Jean and Scott and other in Apocalypse, yeah we'd have to recast them, as Apocalypse takes place a good twenty years before [the first] X-Men, which was now, insanely, a good ten to fifteen years ago," stated Simon Kinberg, writer of the Apocalypse (via IGN).
As what has been clarified by the director before, X-Men: Apocalypse is not a spin-off movie but a direct sequel to X:Men: Days of Future Past. Apocalypse is the most powerful enemy of the mutants to be played by Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor Oscar Isaac.
In a recent interview with IGN, Isaac shared his views on the character that he'll be playing: "So with this character I am incredibly interested in the challenge of finding someone that's psychologically interesting and compelling, and actually the spiritual aspects of the character... For me, that's what I'm interested in, in any character that I do. It's a meditation on 'What's their engine? What's their spirit?' Whether that's about Llewyn Davis or Apocalypse, there's an aspect of 'What is it that makes them run? What's their spirit like?' That's what I'm interested in finding out about that character."
It is safe to keep our eyes on the confirmed details about the Apocalypse as we wait for the revelation of the remaining cast, including Jean Grey. For now, we could only say kudos to the Filipina actress Marian Rivera who posed as Jean for a cause.
X-Men: Apocalypse is expected to hit theaters on the 27th of May, 2016.
