Lizard Squad attacks Sony's PlayStation Network; the group lays claim to yet another DDoS attack.
Infamous Lizard Squad attacks Sony yet again, or so the group claims in the wake of a brief outage on the PlayStation Network. While the cause of the disruption is yet to be determined, Lizard Squad is capitalizing on the mishap in its bid for notoriety.
Sony Pictures is still recovering from a recent attack to its servers, presumably executed by the North Korean government. The hack resulted in sensitive data stolen and released in file sharing sites, an estimated 100 terabytes of data which includes copies of full-length films and employees' personal information.
The recent Lizard Squad attacks to Sony's PlayStation Network come days after the company hosted the PlayStation Experience, which teased plans for its consoles next year. This year also marks the PlayStation's 20th anniversary.
PlayStation Network users were greeted with an error prompt Sunday night, just after Sony wrapped up its PlayStation Experience. Sony says "we are currently investigating the root cause for the issue." (forbes.com)
Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for the DDoS, in a tweet: "PSN Login #offline #LizardSquad"
Sony eased users' worries on social media as well: "PSN update: we are aware of the issues some users are experiencing, and are working to address them. We'll keep you updated."
The PlayStation Network is currently back online, and the disruption proved less severe compared to the Sony Pictures leak.
Lizard Squad attacks Xbox Live on Christmas Day? There are also hints the group plans to do a major DDoS on the gaming server, in a loaded tweet.
"unlike Santa, we don't like giving all of our Christmas presents out on one day. This entire month will be entertaining #LizardSquad."
Microsoft is keeping users at ease in wake of Lizard Squad attacks Sony's PlayStation Network, in a Live Service Update:
"Are you receiving an error message when attempting to download or launch certain applications? Don't worry! We're working hard to provide a fix as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience, Xbox members. We'll let you know as soon as we know more."
