James Franco's "The Interview" is right in the thick of the Sony's hacking controversy.

James Franco's "The Interview" is being linked to the recent Sony hacks, with North Korea also rumored to be involved. The latter has released a statement denying it was involved in the Sony hack, but condoned the act and called it "a righteous deed."

James Franco is unfazed, but the "127 Hours" actor is taking precautions just the same. Franco insists his movie "The Interview" is purely satire, and is meant to poke fun on American culture more than others.

It appears the government of North Korea is taking the film seriously, demanding Sony to drop its release, which is scheduled on Christmas Day.

"The Interview" revolves on a satire plot, on an assassination attempt against North Korea's Kim Jong-un. Franco assumed the North Korean government's reaction to the movie was totally based on the trailer. In an interview, he explains:

"The movie is a comedy -- it's satire -- and we satirize American celebrity culture as much as we do anything else. My hope is that it comes out and everybody sees, 'Oh, this is funny,'"

In the wake of the recent Sony hack, Franco also says he's taking all the necessary precautions, maybe even a bit too seriously.

"I mean I've talked to Seth about it and he's like make sure you, someone watches your accounts. They certainly are. There's like a triple watch over my money every day, but other than that Seth is like, "Don't worry, whatever,'"

The hackers to Sony's data treasure trove labeled themselves as the "Guardians of Peace," and in a statement demanded the company shelve James Franco's "The Interview," or suffer the consequences.

"We have already given our clear demand to the management team of Sony, however, they have refused to accept. It seems that you think everything will be well, if you find out the attacker, while no reacting to our demand. We are sending you our warning again. Do carry out our demand if you want to escape us. And, Stop immediately showing the movie of terrorism which can break the regional peace and cause the War! You, Sony & FBI, cannot find us. We are perfect as much. The destiny of Sony is totally up to the wise reaction & measure of Sony." (yahoo.com)
