"Revenge" cast Josh Bowman apparently got his wish for Daniel Grayson to be killed off in the series. There's an added twist that seemed fitting as well: his character died while trying to save real-life girlfriend Emily VanCamp's character, Emily Thorne.
Executive producer Sunil Nayar told TVLine that the decision to kill off Daniel Grayson was also Josh Bowman's idea.
"Josh [Bowman] and I spoke at the beginning of the season about the journey we wanted to take Daniel on. He and I were on the same page, wanting to take a big swing at the end of our winter finale and wanting to see if we could do it in a redemptive way," he said.
"That moment between [Emily and Daniel] was so beautiful at the end. It was also a way for us to keep shifting what the show is about so we never get complacent and the audience never knows what's coming next," the showrunner added.
The E! News said that the death of "Revenge" cast Josh Bowman's character was still part of Daniel Grayson's path to redemption.
"The ABC hit pulled off its biggest death and greatest feat yet on Sunday night, offing the Grayson amily's prodigal son while completing his journey toward redemption, a task which seemed almost impossible after he shot Emily (Emily VanCamp) last season," it said.
What made it more poignant was the fact that Daniel Grayson just found out that he's going to be a father.
Sunil Nayar said that the death of "Revenge" cast Josh Bowman's character was more of a creative decision in order to tell the story going forward, although it doesn't mean that his character is not going to be missed.
"We wanted the death to mean something in a way that it invoked sympathy and sadness in our viewers," he said. "So I think we told the story really correctly and I think the performance Josh gave in all the episodes this year to redeem that character is amazing."
