An associate professor at Harvard Business School is making people cringe all around (and making people wonder about earnings from his salary) after he started a "virtual attack" on Sichuan Garden, a Boston-area restaurant owned by Ran Duan, for charging him $4 extra for his $53.35 order of Chinese food, according to Boston.com.
Regardless of what Ben Edelman, a professor at Harvard Business School who teaches a class in the Negotiation, Organizations & Markets unit, earns as a salary, the University seems to be cautious about the "negative stereotypes" that the teacher's unnecessary, heated dispute may have caused, as a campaign has been launched overnight on the website FundRazr for the Greater Boston Food Bank, according to the Boston Globe.
"In accordance with our community values, we are calling on all Harvard students to flip the [script] by donating $4 to provide food for those in need," the fundraising page said.
The campaign that has been launched is expected to be especially helpful in fighting off these "negative stereotypes" as the Harvard Business School professor's attack on the Chinese restaurant was released to the public.
"Under Massachusetts law it turns out to be a serious violation to advertise one price and charge a different price," Edelman wrote, according to Fox News.
He continues, "I have already referred this matter to the appropriate legal authorities in order to attempt to compel your restaurant to identify all consumers affected and to provide refunds to all of them, or in any event to assure that an appropriate sanction is applied as provided by law."
Duan, who immigrated from China with his parents when he was 3-years-old, has reportedly run Sichuan Garden since the early 1990's.
"I personally respond to every complaint and try to handle every situation personally," Duan stated.
He continued, "I have worked so hard to make my family proud and to elevate our business. It [the email exchange with Edelman] just broke my heart."
