Ron Terry has been developing for a Janis Joplin Movie for 15 years already. According to Press Herald, the music-producer-turned-screenwriter who knew and worked with the singer did not give up on trying to make the film come to life even it has been fruitless for almost a decade. The movie with a release date not yet set is rumored to have Amy Adams of "Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice" as the lead star.
People noted Adams' affection for the "hard-living-yet-vulnerable singer" who died at in 1970 at age 27. Reportedly, in her interview with Vogue magazine for its December issue, Adams said that if given the opportunity to get coffee with anyone from the past, it'd be with Janis Joplin, but "it probably wouldn't be coffee."
The 40-year-old actress, who is set to appear in other projects including "Story of Your Life" which is based on a short story by Ted Chiang, disclosed that the biopic's delay has "just been a process of getting the script together and finding time in schedules."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project, which has been in development for quite a while, has seen a lot of setbacks, including picking the director which includes the names like Lee Daniels, Fernando Meirelles, and Catherine Hardwicke. Now, the creative team behind "Dallas Buyers Club" is reuniting to discuss the Janis Joplin life story. Reportedly, Jean-Marc Vallée, who just finished "Demolition," a drama with Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts, and "Wild" starring Reese Witherspoon, is in negotiations to helm the project. Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack are in negotiations to rewrite for the biopic and Vallee's producing partner, Ron Terry is producing with Nathan Ross.
Press Herald reported that the movie will be called "Get It While You Can" instead of the suggested "Piece of My Heart" because he Terry felt that the suggested title doesn't represent Joplin.
"Get it while you can' was her theory," Terry said. "She wasn't thinking about longevity. She was thinking about now, and the music." Fans can only hope that others are too.
