Mark Wahlberg's wife is standing by him amid the assault controversy as the "Transformer: Age of Extinction" actor's victim offers forgiveness.
In an interview with MailOnline, Johnny Trinh, 59, said that he doesn't bear a grudge against the actor as he clarified that it wasn't Mark Wahlberg who caused his left eye to be blind.
"I was not blinded by Mark Wahlberg. He did hurt me, but my left eye was already gone. He was not responsible for that," he said. "He was young and reckless but I forgive him now. Everyone deserves another chance."
Assault victim Trinh also supported Mark Wahlberg and his wife's campaign to have his crime pardoned and even expressed his intention to meet the actor again.
'He paid for his crime when he went to prison. I am not saying that it did not hurt when he punched me in the face, but it was a long time ago," he said. "He has grown up now. I am sure he has his own family and is a responsible man."
Mark Wahlberg pleaded guilty to assault in 1988 when he was just 16 years old, after he tried to rob a Vietnamese guy in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Based on court documents, the actor also used a racial slur as he hit him on the head with a wooden stick that knocked the victim unconscious.
When the police came, Mark Wahlberg even asked Trinh to hide him. And after the patrol car left, the actor punched him on his left eye. The actor was given a two-year jail sentence with 21 months suspended for the double assault.
Amid the assault, and his request for pardon, Mark Wahlberg's wife, Rhea Durham, is standing by her man as they attended the red carpet premiere in New York City for "The Gambler." According to MailOnline, the model wore "high-waisted trousers with a narrow pair of midnight blue and purple heels that added inches to her already statuesque height."
