‘Sherlock’ Benedict Cumberbatch Finally Confirmed To Play Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’! Freeman, Nighy, Watanabe Eyed As The Ancient One For The Sorcerer’s Film

Marvel's "Doctor Strange" has finally gotten the actor to play the role of the Sorcerer Supreme. Benedict Cumberbatch is now confirmed to play the role of Doctor Strange, and now Marvel is looking for the actor who will fit to portray as The Ancient One.

The Ancient One is the mentor of our sorcerer superhero. Doctor Stephen Strange meets him when he travels to the East to find the cure for his hands, which are damaged because of a car accident.

In recent reports online, Morgan Freeman, Ken Watanabe, and Bill Nighy are being eyed for the role. Although the list for potential actors is still subject to change, one among the three may likely to land the role.

Freeman and Watanabe had already have experienced playing role in the same genre. But for the case of Nighy, it will be his first in case he will be chosen for the role.

"Sherlock" star Cumberbatch, on the other hand, is "really excited" to start filming "Doctor Strange". "There's a lot of work to be done and I'm just at the beginning of it all so I'm not going to talk too much about it. It's a thrilling gig to get and I can't wait. Very excited," he said at the British Independent Film Awards.

In a report by Mirror, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was quoted, saying "Stephen Strange's story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character."

The 38-year-old actor has recently received acclaim for the movie "The Imitation Game" because of his portrayal of Alan Turing, a persecuted British scientist. Cumberbatch is currently attached to BBC's "Sherlock Holmes", wherein the plays the role of Holmes.

"Doctor Strange" is part of Phase 3 of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It will be directed by Scott Derrickson and will be released in November 2016.
