Slice Of 2011 Royal Wedding William-Kate Fruit Cake Auctioned For $7,500, 27 Years Old-'Charles-Diana' Cake $6000.

2011 Royal Wedding William And Kate. Recent reports say a piece of wedding cake from Prince William and Kate Middleton's high-profile marriage in 2011 was sold in an auction for an atrocious price of $7500. The cake was expected to fetch just $1000 or $2000, but Julien's Auctions got six or seven times more than the expected price - not bad for a cake that's 3-year old. The original version was an 8-tier cake fruit cake.

According to CNN Money, Julien's bought the slice of cake from a guest at the 2011 Royal Wedding William And Kate. Guest supposedly received a piece of the eight-tier cake in a tin and had a blank invitation on it. The massive cake took nearly 5 weeks to finish and it is expected to hit peak 'taste' shortly after a year.

The 2011 Royal Wedding William And Kate fruit cake was made by prominent cake-maker Fiona who was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying, "'We reflected some of the architectural details in the room so the garlands on the walls were reproduced loosely on the fourth tier - we've used roses, acorns, ivy leaves, apple blossom and bridal rose.'

She added, "The bride wanted elements from the Joseph Lambeth technique of cake decoration, where intricate piping is used to make three dimensional scroll work, leaves, and flowers...Kate also gave Fiona detailed instructions for her to include 17 different blooms and foliage for their meaning or symbolism - known as the 'language of flowers'."

Prior to this sale, the auction house sold a slice of wedding cake from Prince Charles and Princess Diana for a price just over $6,000, Julien's told reporters.

Julien's revealed that the Charles-Diana cake slice was 27 years old at the time of auction. Along with the cake, the auction house sold five dresses from Princess Diana's collection amassing $458,000.
