Melissa Rivers news reported how she got emotional during a recent tribute for her mother, Joan Rivers. According to the report from Washington Post, the new "Fashion Police" host described the late comedienne as "brave" and "fearless".
The 46-year-old shared how she has been coping with Joan Rivers' death last September 4. The whole world was shocked at her untimely passing, which followed after a week-long coma condition from a botched operation at Upper East Side's Yorkville Endoscopy clinic.
"For me, the last three months and six days - not that I'm counting - have been different to say the least," Melissa Rivers said during Hollywood Reporter's annual Women in Entertainment breakfast.
Melissa Rivers news from Washington Post reported how she also got emotional during the tribute. She said: "Every single person in this room could hire me, and a few have actually fired me. You know who you are but I don't want you to feel bad ... but technically I am now an orphan."
Aware that her notoriously frank mother might have offended some people, particularly while hosting "Fashion Police," Melissa Rivers shared: "I guess it's true that most of the women who are here - and we all have powerful voices in our respective fields - wouldn't be here if it weren't for (my mother)."
Towards the end of Joan Rivers' tribute, her only daughter described the TV icon as brave. Melissa Rivers said: "My mother was fearless - I don't mean she didn't have any fears."
She explained: "I mean that although she was only 5'2", she stood tall and walked through them. That is what made her such a brilliant performer."
Melissa Rivers added: "She was willing to say what others were thinking and too frightened to admit. She never apologized for a joke and no topic was taboo and she was fine with that."
