Which smartphone is the better buy? The Nokia XL or the HTC Desire 310.
In terms of design, and display, the Nokia XL has a glossy plastic back panel with a curved form and almost sharp corners, while the HTC Desire 310 is thicker but with more rounded corners, featuring the same plastic material on its back. The Nokia handset measures 141.4×77.7×10.9 mm and weighs 190 grams, with 50 grams more than the HTC handset, but that’s because this smartphone has a smaller sizeof 132.4x68x11.3 mm.
The Nokia XL's display measures 5 inches and it’s an IPS LCD capable of supporting an average resolution of 480x800pixels, with a pixel density of 187ppi. The HTC Desire 310 comes with a 4.5inches TFT display that supports almost the same resolution, but slightly improved, because it’s 480x854pixels with 218ppi.
For the hardware and OS, the Nokia XL has a dual core Cortex-A5 processor with a clock speed of only 1GHz, while a quad core Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.3GHz is on the HTC Desire 310. The Nokia handset has a Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon S4 Play chipset supporting an Adreno 203 GPU and 768MB, while the HTC device uses a Mediatek MT6582M chipset that hosts a Mali-400MP2 GPU and 1GB of RAM, but there is another variant that uses 512MB of RAM.
Both devices run on the Android platform, the Nokia XL has v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) installed on it and the HTC Desire 310 has a relatively newer version, v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean).
For the battery and camera specs, both devices have a user replaceable battery with the same capacity of 2000mAh, but they have a different life duration: the Nokia XL lasts 720 hours in stand by mode and allows up to 13 hours of talktime on 3G, while the HTC Desire 310 withstands 852 hours in stand by mode and users can talk up to 11 hours in 3G.
The rear cameras are both 5MP, but only the Nokia handset features autofocus and LED flash, but it can record videos at 480p@30fps, while the HTC device can record at 1080p. The front cameras are 2MP on the Nokia handset, and VGA for the HTC device.
The Nokia XL costs $127, while the HTC Desire 310 is $2 more expensive.
