Big reveals for the multiplayer Grand Theft Auto 5 Online Heists; the game is confirmed but release date still pending.
GTA Online lead mission designer Imran Sarwar just revealed a treasure trove of updates on Grand Theft Auto 5 Online Heists, and it's confirmed the upgrade to the GTA experience will be as significant as the First-Person View mode.
The game's exact release date is yet to be determined, but Sarwar says it's going to be set early next year. The tentative launch is caused by issues in development; the multiplayer mode turned out to be a more difficult add-on than anticipated.
Sarwar dished out the details in an IGN interview:
"As it turns out, creating missions of that complexity for multiple players at the same time was much more difficult than we anticipated and every time we thought we were close, something would send us back to square one. Having already let players know of our intentions with Heists, every setback only increased the pressure to make sure we got them right."
Months of rework resulted in a four-player dynamic in the game, with each player's role maximized in every heist. Development on the Online upgrade was done simultaneous with porting Grand Theft Auto V into PC and console platforms.
Each campaign or heist comes with requirements, and involves one leader in the four-man crew.
"Each heist requires 4 players all at rank 12 or above, with one player as the designated heist leader. Leading a heist requires owning a high-end apartment so that you have a room available to set up the planning board. From there you'll be able to launch missions as the leader, starting with the prep work and building up to the score itself."
Sarwar says there's a total of twenty missions Grand Theft Auto 5 Online Heists, laid out in five unique strands. Missions have repeat value as players switch roles between crew leader and members, with hints of big Easter eggs thrown in.
