Mario Bros is undoubtedly an iconic side-scrolling platform game during the 90s. With its lovable characters, mind-boggling gameplay, and epic storyline, who would have thought that it would be turned into something lke "Cat Mario"?

For those who have already gone through this game for the n-th time, especially in the first levels, Shobon Action has reinvented the game. They’ve added a lot of unexpected twists to the original game that would tell Mario fans and gamers, “You’re not playing enough of Mario Bros.”

Shobon’s game, “Cat Mario” is not actually intending to put a dump on the original Mario Bros game. But with the unexpected surprises that would kill the character game, this platformer is probably one of the most frustrating games ever made.

The player controls a cat-like character who must venture through side-scrolling platform levels, which is very familiar to those who have played the original Mario Bros back in the days.

The game consists of four levels filled with innocent-looking objects, such as normal-looking ground tiles that suddenly fall into pits, blocks that sprout spikes when touched, enemies that suddenly appear close to the character, deadly background scenery, and killer flagpoles that would eliminate the character in different ways.

Although most parts of each level would definitely troll the players, Shobon is kind enough to provide infinite lives. So, even if the player’s life reaches to 0, they can still continue with the game, but the counter will be on the negative side of the number system.

Despite their element of surprise, the levels do not change between plays, allowing the player to remember the location of each trap in order to make progress. Experienced players still should remain on guard. Designers have also shared their thoughts on how the game requires logic where players should apply the process of trial-and-error in order to complete the game.

Cat Mario was first released in February, 2007. Although it is among the most frustrating games, it’s also among the top 100 games. The game can be played on its official website.
