Will "The Lego Movie 2" have a female lead?

In an interview with BBC, sequel writer Phil Lord dished on the new movie's inclusion of more female characters.

"It's important to us that the movie plays broadly and that we inspire young women as much as we inspire young men. I don't want to give spoilers but there will be more female characters and more female stuff."

"You can feel that the whole movie culture is now starting to wake up to the fact that half the audience are women. Frozen is reflective of that - and I think we are all going to find a great flourishing of women film makers and subject matter in the future," he added.

Lord will be co-writing the sequel with Chris Miller. Both Lord and Miller directed "The Lego Movie."

Miller shared, "There's been a real shortage of [female protagonists] in recent years and I think that the near future will be very different."

"The Lego Movie 2" was originally slated for a 2017 release. But new reports suggest that the second movie will be pushed back to a later date because of another awesome Lego Movie.

Hero Complex reported that the "Lego Batman Movie" will take the original 2017 launch of "The Lego Movie 2." That means, the sequel (or prequel, more details later) will be given a 2018 premiere.
