James Franco and Seth Rogen responded to the threat in relation to their newest film, "The Interview," as the two actors and best friends cancelled all appearances to promote the film.
The cancellations came in the wake of the alleged violent threat by anonymous hackers in an email to executives of Sony Pictures, which read: "Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. If your house is nearby, you'd better leave. Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment."
The E! News revealed that the New York premiere for "The Interview" to be headlined by James Franco and Seth Rogen would not longer push through.
The synopsis for "The Interview reads: "Dave Skylark (James Franco) is king of the celebrity interview and host of the hit night time talk show "Skylark Tonight." The brain behind Dave's empire is his producer and best friend, Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen). Unfulfilled, Aaron yearns to do meaningful work. He scores the chance of a lifetime when he secures an interview for Dave with Kim Jong-Un, the mysterious and ruthless dictator of a nuclear-armed North Korea. As Dave and Aaron prepare to leave for North Korea, they are approached by the CIA and asked to assassinate Kim. They accept the mission, becoming two of the least qualified men ever to assassinate-or interview-the most dangerous man on Earth."
In the Los Angeles premiere, James Franco and Seth Rogen were there but declined to be interviewed. But that was in the height of the Sony Pictures hacking incident, which created a lot of bad press for the studio.
"Franco, 36, and Rogen, 32, also pulled out of joint appearances on Buzzfeed Brews Tuesday and NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday," the report said. "Rogen's Thursday appearance on NBC's The Late Night With Seth Meyers has also been canceled in wake of the unidentified hackers' most recent threat."
But not exactly knowing the capacity of the hackers, the threatening email got "The Interview" stars James Franco and Seth Rogen spooked. Sony Pictures has yet to make an official statement regarding the threatening email.
