Minecraft: Story Mode is a confirmed release next year, a narrative-based game set in the Minecraft universe.
Minecraft: Story Mode is the latest offering for fans of the game and its recent episodic adventures. Minecraft previously featured characters from TV shows, such as "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones."
Telltale Games is now setting its sights on Creepers in the new installment. The developer announced the game last Thursday, a narrative-driven title contained within the Minecraft universe. The Minecraft: Story Mode release date is pegged for 2015, ported to the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, PC, Mac, iOS and Android.
News of the game was confirmed through Info Quest II, an 8-bit game which involves participants answering questions and receiving different answers. IGN tinkered with the game and eventually dug up a press release with information on Minecraft: Story Mode.
The game will revolve around a core story, but will be driven by player's choices. It won't be an official story arc for Steve, though, and it's not a revelation of the Minecraft universe per se. The title is also self-contained and will not affect the core of Minecraft.
Developer Mojang is working with Telltale Games to ensure the game stays true to the Minecraft dynamic. "We're not intending on creating an 'official' story for [Minecraft protagonist] Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail."
Microsoft recently purchased Mojang for a whopping $2.5 billion dollars; Minecraft creator Markus Persson stepped out of the company after its sale.
"We've begun to realize that there's a massive demand for fiction set in the Minecraft universe. People love engaging the world, whether they're building, adventuring, or role-playing an awesome Creeper slayer. The tricky bit is working out how to explore a story without diluting Minecraft itself."
Minecraft: Story Mode will feature new characters developed by Telltale Games and Mojang, also by the Minecraft community (yahoo.com).
