Sherlock season 4 updates

Even though the "Sherlock" season 4 air date is still a year away, fans are already pumped up about seeing Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman together as the investigative duo in 221 Baker Street.

With such a large following, there will be people who will "ship" the two stars together. Even other characters within the show have been questioning the possible relationship between the flatmates.

Sherlock Holmes isn't just being shipped to John Watson either. That epic kiss between the sleuth detective and his arch enemy Jim Moriarty - although just the result of a very active imagination - riled up its audience quite a bit.

Now that news of Jim Moriarty returning along with the "Sherlock" season 4 air date is out, will we be seeing more interaction between the enemies - romantically?

After thousands of speculations about the British detective, did Benedict Cumberbatch accidentally "outed" Sherlock Holmes?

During an interview with The Nerdist Podcast earlier this month, the 38-year-old actor was asked to compare the notorious detective with Stephen Moffat's other famous character, Doctor Who.

He told Chris Hardwick that "one uses a sonic screwdriver and time travel, and the other uses his brain and isn't 900 years old, isn't reincarnated, isn't, you know...One doesn't solve crimes quite as much."

Continuing with his comparison, "The Imitation Game" star said the Doctor "talks fast and is clever."

However, according to the Golden Globe-nominated actor, that's their only commonality.

"They've got different dress senses, different taste in the sex of their partners..." he shared.

Although this might also mean "partners" in the literal sense of the word, several media outlets - and hopeful fans - wished it meant the great detective's preference to date the same sex.

Totally disregarding the special connection he shared with Irene Adler before she disappeared.

If Sherlock Holmes really was gay, then would we be seeing more clues - or meta jokes - of this in "Sherlock" season 4? Who do you think should the intellectual sociopath pair up with romantically if he was gay?
