Are you looking for a way to get rid of your Christmas tree in the least messy way possible?

Goats may be able to help you.

Vince Thomas, who is now launching a new program with the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, will be using his 40 goats to help recycle Christmas trees and help those who are looking to get rid of their green holiday buddy, according to The Associated Press.

Thomas reportedly stated that he got tried of watching people get rid of their trees in landfills or dump them on public property, which is why he decided to get his goats on the job.

“They’ll eat the pine needles and leave the skeleton of the tree,” stated Thomas, a longtime volunteer firefighter.

He told the Reno Gazette-Journal, “It basically looks like Charlie Brown’s Christmas with a scrawny tree that has nothing but the branches.”

The Christmas trees that were thrown out in landfills or on public property reportedly became fire hazards.

“It was amazing to me to see how many Christmas trees people would just toss out there,” explained Thomas.

The goats not only “love their job and don’t complain,” but they also benefit from the discarded Christmas trees as well.

“I did a lot of research on that, and it’s OK for the goats. With cattle and some of the other animals, it can cause miscarriages. But for goats, it’s a natural dewormer, and pine is very high in Vitamin C, so it’s healthy for them,” stated Thomas.
