Doctor Who spoilers for season 8 involve the resolution of Clara's fate: for those who've yet to watch the Christmas special, there's a serious spoiler in store below.
Jenna Coleman will return as Clara in season 9, as rumored by early Doctor Who spoilers for season 8. The news may come as a surprise for fans, since Clara's story was practically on the rails of a rollercoaster ride ever since season 7.
Show-runner Steven Moffat confirmed the news during the screening for the Doctor Who Christmas special, according to doctorwhotv:
"Jenna is in all of the next series. There was a certain amount of to-ing and fro-ing. I always think I'm quite good at winding up people on this but Jenna completely outplayed me when she said in an interview 'I'm not telling you if I'm staying or going because it's just more exciting.' And it occurred to us all that we don't start shooting until January so we could actually keep it a secret."
The theme for Doctor Who season 8 was all about transitions, with the titular role regenerated from the eleventh to the twelfth Doctor Who; with a changing lead, Clara's fate was also considered up in the air, especially with a lukewarm outing in season 7. Jenna Coleman returns in season 9, though, it's settled. (cinemablend.com).
Co-star Peter Capaldi said "I think Jenna's been just fantastic and it's been such a pleasure to work with her - and especially for me as the new person onto the show, she's just been fantastic - and so I was so excited and delighted when she finally [agreed to stay]."
Jenna is excited Doctor Who spoilers season 8 unveiled in her character's favor as well.
"It's wonderful - a whole other series of stories with the Doctor. I couldn't walk away with the story being unresolved, there's so much more to do and I think Clara and the Doctor have finally just reached a point where they really understand each other."
