After getting 9/11-like threats from who are now recognized as North Korean hackers, Sony faces another problem with its most controversial movie of the year. "The Interview" allegedly pirated a Kpop song.
When Sony Entertainment decided to release the Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy on Christmas day in independent cinemas, it seemed as if the worst was already over.
Barely a week after its online and art house cinema premiere, however, a Korean singer accused the company of using one of her songs without proper permission.
Yoon Mirae, a US-born hip hop artist currently living in South Korea, claimed that "The Interview" pirated a Kpop song. Her song, "Pay Day," was supposedly used in the film without proper compensation or permission.
Born as Natasha Shanta Reid, Yoon is considered a legendary female singer and rapper in the Korean music industry.
Her label, Feel Ghood Music, is currently planning to file a legal complaint against the copyright infringement.
"There were initial discussions for using 'Pay Day' in the movie, but at some point, the discussions ceased and we assumed that it would not follow through," Feel Ghood Music said in a statement via The Inquisitr. "However, after the movie was released, we learned that the track had been used without permission, legal procedure, or contracts."
The music label added, "We will be taking legal action against Sony Pictures as well as DFSB, the agency that had been carrying out the discussion regarding the use of the track."
Aside from "The Interview" allegedly pirating a Kpop song, the satirical comedy apparently also used a Katy Perry cover instead of the original version.
According to Showbizz411, the movie used Jenny Lane's acoustic version of Katy Perry's "Fireworks" when Kim Jong-Un (Randall Park) gets killed.
