“Saved By The Bell” star Dustin Diamond was reportedly due in court today following an arrest last Thursday night in Wisconsin for allegedly stabbing a man at a local bar, the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Department stated, according to ABC News.
When confronted by law enforcement, Dustin Diamond reportedly tried to lie about the altercation, stating that his weapon was actually a pen, not a knife, according to the NY Daily News.
“I moved his arm up and around and I had the knife in my hand — or the, ah, pen — in my hand,” Diamond told the police, according to the complaint.
The complaint noted, “Officer Nye observed that twice during his conversation with Diamond, as Diamond was talking about having a pen in his hand, he referred to it as a knife, and then corrected himself, saying it was a pen.”
The altercation reportedly involved two men and a woman. The patrons at the bar reportedly refused to stop taking photos of Diamond, who is most well known for his character Screech on “Saved By The Bell.”
During the argument, the 37-year-old actor reportedly stabbed a man under his right armpit with a 3.75-inch stiletto folding knife, according to a criminal complaint filed on Friday in Ozaukee County court.
The knife was reportedly recovered from Diamond’s car and reportedly had “moisture, possibly blood, on it.” The actor reportedly later admitted that he was “armed with a knife” and only used it to protect his fiancee, Amanda Schutz.
Dustin Diamond reportedly posted $10,000 bail before his court hearing on Monday, according to the Associated Press.
“Dustin has a gentle mature. He likes people to laugh,” Diamond’s parents said in a statement.
They added, “If he felt that Amanda was in danger, he would certainly protect her. Who wouldn’t protect a loved one?”
