Although sources close to Chris Rock and wife Malaak Compton have stated that the former couple will be having a “simple divorce,” that may not be the case after all.
The “Top 5” actor has reportedly claimed in court documents that he does not have access to his daughters, 10-year-old Zahra and 12-year-old Lola, according to the Irish Independent.
Chris Rock reportedly wants shared legal and physical custody, according to the U.K.’s The Mirror.
“He lives for his children. They come first. When he was doing publicity tour for ‘Top Five,’ he made it clear it had to be scheduled around being able to take his daughters to school and pick them up,” a source close to the comedian stated.
Chris Rock and his wife Malaak reportedly did sign a pre-nuptial agreement in 1996, but it reportedly may have expired because it was created so long ago. Although the former couple have only recently announced they would be splitting, Rock and Compton have reportedly been having marital problems for “some time,” according to an insider.
“Chris just wasn’t happy in the marriage anymore. There is no third party involved. Chris and his wife had previously separated and got back together, so there have been problems for some time,” explained a source for the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column.
Another source repeatedly told TMZ that Chris Rock “just did not want to continue in a marriage that was not fulfilling.”
The 49-year-old comedian was reportedly the one to file for divorce. Chris Rock reportedly claimed that Malaak Compton can support herself, suggesting spousal support can be reduced.
“While recognizing that this is a significant change, my children remain at the centre of my life and their well-being is my top priority. It is in this spirit that I sincerely ask that their privacy and the privacy of our family be respected during this transition in our lives,” stated Compton.
