Sarah Palin is making headlines once again, this time for Instagram photos she posted with her dog.
This past week, Palin got the attention of PETA for posting a picture of her son Trig stepping on their dog, a Labrador retriever named Jill Hadassah, along with her “Happy New Year” Facebook post, according to the website Townhall.
“It’s odd that anyone — let alone a mother — would find it appropriate to post such a thing, with no apparent sympathy for the dog in the photo,” PETA stated.
The organization added, “Then again, PETA, along with everyone else, is used to the hard-hearted, seeming obliviousness of this bizarrely callous woman, who actually thought it appropriate to be filmed while turkeys were being slaughtered right behind her in full view of the camera.”
For those who are unaware of the “turkey incident,” in 2008, Sarah Palin had come under fire for pardoning a turkey as Alaska governor while turkeys were being killed in the background.
Following PETA’s criticism, Palin seems to think that she did nothing wrong by posting a photo of her son stepping on their dog.
"They're not attacking me because I showed people a special needs child and his happy, healthy, beloved service dog; they're attacking me because, well, I'm me," wrote the former Alaskan governor.
She added, “So what's new? PETA throws raw meat in front of their attack dogs and says sic 'em, and we have a choice in how to react to these kind of haters who'll keep on hating. We either accept their attacks as stumbling blocks, or see them as stepping stones to make a point about truth."
According to E! News, the animal rights organization noted in a statement that it “simply believes that people shouldn’t step on dogs, and judging by the reaction that we’ve seen to Sarah Palin’s Instagram photo, we’re far from alone in that belief.”
