Morena Bacarrin joins the "Gotham" TV show cast when it resumed its run after mid-season break; will her character's run-in with Jim Gordon spark the show's main romance? Bacarrin plays Leslie Thompkins from the DC graphic novels, but with an altered story arc.
With Ben Mckenzie's character Jim Gordon transferred to Arkham Asylum for defying the powers that be, there's potential for new shoes to fill in the "Gotham" TV show cast. The last episode ended with an underwhelming note, but with first scenes of Jim's run-in with Arkham Asylum's resident shrink, Leslie Thompkins.
Morena Bacarrin's TV credits include "Firefly" and "Homeland," and her new role in "Gotham" mirrors Jim Gordon's. They're both pragmatic and rational to the core. It's expected the two will hit-it off at the get-go. But will the professional relationship bud into something romantic? (screenrant.com)
"She's very pragmatic and isn't fazed by the craziness of Gotham. So they're pretty drawn to each other and they wind up teaming up," Bacarrin said in an IGN interview; does this mean there's hope for romance in the horizon?
The relationship between Gordon and Thompkins is strictly professional, though, at least for now. The TV show plans to alter her character's story arc a bit from the graphic novels.
"We are having her team up with Jim Gordon instead of the Wayne family and Bruce. Eventually, who knows-it could go in that direction, but it hasn't yet."
Thompkins was one of Bruce Wayne's closer friends and early confidants in the DC graphic novels.
"Yeah. They're not sticking too close to the original mythology from the comics," said Bacarrin. "Basically she and Jim meet at Arkham Asylum where he winds up working after the last episode. And they sort of hit it off because they're both two people who are trying to do the right thing in a city that's corrupt. And, like him, she's someone who doesn't really stand for bulls***."
Gotham resumed its first season run this Monday.
