"Lego Movie 2" is set to return to the big screen on 2018, and as new reports claimed the sequel will happen four years after the first movie.
Speaking with Empire, sequel writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller dished on their plans for the second movie.
"Well I don't want to give you spoilers but we were really interested in what happens to that boy who's in the meta story in the first movie when he's four years older", said Miller. "When he's an adolescent how does that change his point of view?
"It's nice to have the characters start in a different place from the first movie. Emmet, for example, was in an existential crisis of having seen another dimension and was questioning the whole point of his existence."
This confirmation from Lord and Miller disproves rumors that the second movie will actually be a prequel. Speculations abound earlier this year when reports claimed that "Lego Movie 2" has already been considered way before the first film came out.
According to Cinema Blend, "This sequel, Lego Movie 2 was planned even before the first film was released, so sure was Warner Bros. of its success. As it turns out, they were right. The original Lego Movie was a massive critical and financial success, making The Lego Movie 2 an easy commitment."
Meanwhile, Hero Complex reported that the "Lego Batman Movie" will take the original 2017 launch of " Lego Movie 2." Another Lego movie called "Ninjago" on the other hand, is slated for an October 14, 2016 release.
"I think it's nice for all these other films to have their own voice and that's what's neat about working with all these other filmmakers," said Lord. "They come up with solutions you wouldn't think of. Watching Charlie Bean's sequences for Ninjago is so gratifying because he's able to make it play without any dialogue and has a really great visual style. It's really nice and refreshing. I think it would get boring if we directed them all, quite honestly."
In addition to the Lego movies in the works, Warner Bros. is definitely working on more Lego video games. After "Lego Batman," "Lego Star Wars" and "Lego Hobbit" made than more than $2B, the company thought it would be a good decision to keep doing more of these video games in the future.
