Michael Sam, the first openly gay football player, shared a sweet kiss with his boyfriend Vito Cammisano on national television after the NFL star got drafted by the St. Louis Rams last year, according to CBS Local.
Now there are reports that Sam and Cammisano got engaged during a current vacation in Europe, according to People.
Whether the couple actually got engaged during their recent trip has yet to be confirmed.
Michael Sam and Cammisano reportedly met while they were students at the University of Missouri. Sam reportedly dismissed the thought that his coming out as gay cost him a spot in the NFL after being cut by the Rams and the Dallas Cowboys during an Oprah Winfrey Network documentary.
“I don’t like to think that way,” Sam stated.
He added, “But I do believe I’m a very talented football player and I’m going to continue working hard and try to get that opportunity to play in the league. I did everything I was supposed to do. I did everything right. I am proud of how I handled things.”
As for what Sam calls the “infamous kiss,” the football player reportedly stated that it was spontaneous.
“Everyone made a big deal out of it,” Sam stated.
He added, “It’s just a kiss. Did you forget that I was gay? Should I be kissing a woman instead?”
