The "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" movie may be a one-shot deal, according to a report.
J.K. Rowling's supplement to the Harry Potter saga is set in events seven years before Potter came to Hogwarts, which makes even cameo appearances from the leads a distant possibility.
It's confirmed "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" movie will launch in theaters, at least. With a release date slated for November 18, 2016, producer David Heyman debunked reports the prequel of sorts to Harry Potter would be a trilogy.
"We're making just one film, but I believe there's been talk about it being three. But we're just talking about it as one," Heyman said during an interview with Collider for his new movie "Paddington," which screens on theaters next week.
The movie will be stylistically similar to the Harry Potter series of films, with Heyman revealing production designer Stuart Craig is back on board. Craig created the world of all eight Harry Potter films, also credited for the design of the Orlando theme parks.
"The experience of conjuring up these worlds is such fun. So to do it with [Rowling] and with Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram is involved too, and with David Yates, and Stuart Craig will be designing it; it's great," Heyman said of the team collaborating on the project.
"It's exciting, and it's a great world to return to."
Previous reports even speculated the movie would extend into a series, beyond the "three mega movies" speculated in The New York Times. For now, the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" movie is considered a one shot deal; J.K. Rowling wrote the book as a reference guide to the Harry Potter universe, with an index of beasts and an introduction the only material provided for a plot.
The film may not involve as many characters as the Harry Potter movies, but it's expected fans will give it a chance just the same when it comes out in theaters next year.
