George Zimmerman was reportedly acquitted in 2013 of a second-degree murder charge for shooting an unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin.
Since his acquittal, the 31-year-old reportedly had several run-ins with the law, and has most recently been arrested on a charge of domestic aggravated assault, according to the Associated Press.
George Zimmerman was reportedly arrested around 10p.m. in Lake Mary, just outside Orlando. Zimmerman reportedly appeared in court and was given a $5,000 bond and ordered to stay out of Volusia County on Saturday morning, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Judge John Galluzzo reportedly told Zimmerman that he has until Tuesday to surrender firearms in his possession. Details of what had happened before George Zimmerman’s arrest were not available; however, Zimmerman’s lawyer has reportedly stated that the incident did not involve a firearm and may have involved a bottle of wine, according to the Washington Post.
Zimmerman is reportedly scheduled to appear back in court on February 17, according to ABC News.
After his acquittal in the case of the death of Trayvon Martin, Zimmerman was reportedly arrested on charges of aggravated assault, battery and criminal mischief after his then-girlfriend alleged that he pointed a gun at her face during an argument, smashed her coffee table and pushed her out of their home.
Zimmerman was also reportedly accused of smashing an iPad during an argument by his estranged wife. He had also reportedly been pulled over three times for traffic violations since his acquittal.
Twitter users have commented on the recent arrest of George Zimmerman.
“Surprise surprise,” tweeted Mark Ruffalo along with a link to an article regarding Zimmerman’s arrest.
Greg Gutfeld tweeted, “In times of grave uncertainty it’s good to know we can always rely on one sure thing, rain or shine: George Zimmerman’s a douche.”
